Cavaliers Acquire Donovan Mitchell in Blockbuster Trade

Star Guard Joins Cleveland in Multi-Team Deal

Update: September 21, 2022, 10:32 AM

The Cleveland Cavaliers have officially announced the acquisition of three-time All-Star guard Donovan Mitchell in a blockbuster trade with the Utah Jazz. The move was first reported by Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN on Saturday.

In exchange for Mitchell, the Cavaliers have traded Denzel Valentine to the Los Angeles Lakers. Additional details and assets involved in the trade are expected to be disclosed at a later time.

Mitchell is a 25-year-old former Rookie of the Year (2017) and three-time All-Star (2021, 2022, 2023). He averaged 26.4 points, 4.4 rebounds, 5.5 assists, and 2.2 steals per game for the Jazz last season.

The addition of Mitchell to the Cavaliers' roster is a significant upgrade. He joins a young and talented core led by Darius Garland, Evan Mobley, and Jarrett Allen. Cleveland hopes that Mitchell can help them contend for their first NBA championship since 2016.
